Looking for Cook(e) Relatives
By Edith C. CookContributor
From Cape Breton to Peabody Massachusetts
I'm looking for Cook(e) ancestry information. Zachariah Cook immigrated from Cape Breton in 1914 to settle in Peabody, Mass. In 1926, his niece, my Aunt May, immigrated to Peabody, living with her Uncle Zachariah in Peabody.
Listed in the 1930 Census, employed at Leather Co. Aunt May (or Mary) married an Alyward (not sure if this is the correct spelling) and had three children. One son Frances died at age 22 of cancer. She later married a Manning.
In the 1960's I visited Aunt May and her daughter, Mrs. Rudy Luz, Kingdom Terrace, Peabody. During this visit, I noticed a gentlemen across the street that looked so much like my father, I asked Aunt May to look. She casually mentioned he was her brother Jim, but he didn't bother with the family. She didn't offer any further info and all I ever found out about him was he was my Uncle Jim.
Also, I was told another "Aunt" named Elizabeth" was a residence of Peabody and it is believed she died there. My father, Peter, the youngest of the family stayed in New Waterford.
Though the years, all contact was lost.
I just found out recently that Uncle Willie, another of Dad's brothers, lived in Peabody for awhile and was on the Police Force in the 1920's or 30's and a few of his children were born in Peabody.
I am now trying to do the family tree and would appreciate any help from Peabody relatives or friends of relatives that can provide information concerning the Peabody Cook(e)s. Even though they are sisters and brothers, some spell their name Cook, while others add the e.
It would also be interesting to find out why the family immigrated to Peabody - do I have Peabody relatives going back pre-1914?
